Hope the woman dodges permanent brain damage, that sort of beating about the skull can have long term nasty consequences.

We have enough civility and forethought to enact hate crimes for this sick, barbaric violence. The guy is out of jail in hours, threating to "finish the job". In New York, odds are he would have attempted murder charges, hate crime status, a restraining order and an additional making a terrorist threat charge at the very least with bail around $250,000.00
Think you may want to ask the girl's mother if she would be happier if it happened in NY or CA instead of some 3rd. world, backward thinking state like Alabama.

Even in the absence of 'hate crime', assault and battery potentially carries potentially LOOOONG prison terms, no?
