Great video!

I sent it to friends who are confused by the misleading and false statements still being made about Obamacare.

My understanding of Health Care Reform is patchy -- garnered in bits and pieces and often filtered through media sensation.  Like it or hate it or both -- I think this video does a fantastic job of introduction.  Thanks!

Thanks for posting this.  A few of my co-workers need to see this I think.
Our (increased) health insurance rates hit our paychecks today.
I can't decide who they blamed more, Obama, or myself.
Poor old blue cross blue shield is barely braking even though :)

lol

I like how the Uncle Sam cartoon character was throwing money around like crazy the first half of the video, then goes around making people throw money into his jar the second half.

Well, we all know it's going to cost, right?

Some (actually lots of) people despise the idea of throwing more money into the government pot.  But I think this cartoon is straightforward, easy(ier) to understand than most, impartial, and honest (as far as I can tell anyway).  No sugar coating here, and that's good, right?

Yep. It certainly doesn't sugar-coat the socialism. I give you that.

Once you've given up all the other services provided by the "gubmint" that could just as easily be labeled as "socialism" I will respect that comment.

This video has been around for a while.  I sent it to my brother who had some very wrong ideas of what was going to happen.  Since it is produced by Kaiser and he has Kaiser Medicare Advantage I was hopping he would beleive it.  I think he may have.

That would land me in jail. Gotta pay those taxes and now, pay the government just for existing via this healthcare reform.

This isn't just government, this is excessive government. Excessive government becomes (well already became) oppressive thanks to busy bodied people like yourself, as history has shown time and time again.

Excessive government -- yeah, that one will be debated endlessly.

Not saying you need to start agreeing at all... but while you keep criticizing what is coming (perhaps legitimately) -- also spare a thought on the current system that we have!

My view, we are not looking for a perfect system -- we are looking for something better than what we've got -- which is a system that is extremely expensive yet chock full of holes.

I am sure you've come across reports that America spends more on health care than any other nation on Earth.  And yet, while many are happy with what they've got -- others struggle mightily.  Take myself as just an example:

[example edited out upon N2's viewing]

Any large program runs the risk of inefficiency, waste, and folks trying to free load.  'ObamaCare' won't be an exception.  But when analyzing alternatives, we need to compare them to existing scenario -- and not against some idealized scenario that doesn't even exist.  Yeah, like our current system isn't already bloated and wasteful and inefficient and full of holes?

And finally, I really encourage you (and others) to stop applying labels ("socialism") and think through the issues.  Reality is such that a system of this magnitude WILL be some blend between private and public.  Compare health care (a universal need) with national defense!  You complain against socialism?  Well, are you totally and completely against "forced contribution" to our national defense?  I haven't heard you talking about wanting an "opt in or opt out" option!

The world isn't just black or white -- right or wrong -- left or right.  Folks need to get out of that simplistic (lazy) mode of thought!

You can "gray" anything to the point it becomes stale/unproductive. Sometimes black or white has to be reached.

If the current system is "broken", then government intervention will certainly fix it. Just look at their wonderful track record at fixing things thus far.

So let's scratch off public education?  Believe me, I too can think of many instant advantages!

But the reality is that certain "goods" that are universally required do need the part of government.

Criticize public schools all we want -- but we must recognize that many states had excellent systems (and some still have pretty good systems) -- government is not always a failure.

Like our defense system.  Wasteful and bloated?  Yes.  But also THE MOST POWERFUL IN THE WORLD bar none!

You know what, given the scope of health care -- I really wish the GOP will stop their knee-jerk "no" (while ignoring all the current problems) -- but instead -- spend their time and effort to help ensure that we have a public/private system that will work!  The GOP can play a much, much more constructive role.

Anyway, stick to your views, by all means, although I truly believe you are approaching this just by ideology... an ultimate dead end.

No need to go to jail, just -
stop driving on public roads,
stop using any water from any public water systems,
stop flushing toilets that utilize public sewer systems,
don't call 911 when your house is on fire or a family member is sick or injured,
don't expect public flood control projects to protect your family from floods,
don't fly out of public airports,
don't send your kids to public schools or universities,
tell your church leaders to reject their tax free status,
stop walking on public sidewalks,
don't eat any foods that are regulated and inspected by the government,
etc. etc. etc.

No jail necessary.
