Probably but he seems to have forgotten it only works if a train is coming.

The NYC Transit Authority union has directed their members to slow the trains approach speed to stations to 10 mph: which is reportedly messing with schedules....
Glad to read the woman was not injured.

QUOTE Glad to read the woman was not injured. And a suspect arrested. Sounds like another mentally unstable individual. Hopefully the revolving door will get stuck, Philadelphia doesn't appear to have a very good track record on convictions.

Crap....if some nut pushes 4 or more people in front of a train we will have to ban trains!

Metro stations in many countries have barriers with automatic doors installed. Trains come in, stop, and then both the train and the station automatic doors open together. Technology and training together make slowing down to a stop with doorways lined up a snap.

What would be challenging is coming up with the billions of dollars to achieve even partial coverage.
"It would cost an estimated $1.5 million to install sliding doors along two platform edges in a new station, and more to retrofit an existing station. The MTA has 468 station, although many are too narrow for doors."
Stations often have two up to dozens of platforms, times 468( plus 4 under construction for the new 2nd Ave. line) times 1.5 million per pair......

But doing the math (using your numbers) -- $1.5M x 468 = $702M. Say 4 of them per station just for illustration purpose - that would be $2.8 trillion.
Hmmm... sum up the money we spent over the last decade forcibly molding Iraq and Afghanistan to our liking... I think we can install them automatic doors and still get change back!!

Other countries understand that taxes are necessary to provide services because people actually expect to get paid for the services they offer. America has too many people who want something for nothing, like a certain gun totin' equestrian who likes to let his horses destroy national park trails but is opposed to paying higher taxes or an entry fee to maintain the park.

Your math is off, Billions not Trillions.
Whether the NYC MTA can afford it would be the issue.

Vol. 2 http://www.mta.info/mta/budget/july2012/July2012FinancialPlanVol2.pdf
Note that under current plans they project a rising deficit concluding in a 1.3 Billion dollar deficit in 2016.
ETA: Jut how does wasting trillions of federal dollars overseas cause you to judge there's New York City money available for domestic projects?

What is more likely is that people will simply modify their behavior and stay back away from the tracks
At least the smarter ones will
Then the crazies wil simply find another way to act out
