243 sheriffs and counting.
Wolfinger further alluded to Timothy McVeigh's truck-bomb attack on the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995, killing nearly 170 individuals. "No one wanted to outlaw Ryder trucks, fertilizer diesel fuel," Wolfinger argued. "Joseph Duncan used a hammer, but we don't control hand tools." The focus should be "on the assailant themselves," Wolfinger stated, not the weapons they use. Shoshone County Sheriff Mitch Alexander also recently posted a stalwart opinion on gun rights on his Facebook page, as quoted in a recent Shoshone News Press column. Alexander condemned President Obama for his executive orders calling for more firearm regulation. "I do not want or need a king," Alexander stated. "I want my senators and legislators to be included in the traditional and constitutional processes by which laws are passed." Alexander promised he would not go door-to-door collecting weapons.

"Alexander promised he would not go door-to-door collecting weapons."
Which is certainly lovely and all since that's NOWHERE in those much bleated about Presidential listings.
Has he promised to NOT put ice cream on his apple pie? Has he?

He didn't speak about his pie, you might check his Facebook page. The focus should be on the people who commit the crimes he said. Very much a no-brainier for some.

QUOTE QUOTE The former Union County, S.C., sheriff who became a nationally recognized face of law enforcement for investigating Susan Smith’s drowning in 1995 of her two children and her cover-up of the crime has been sentenced in federal court as the result of a wide-ranging public corruption probe in Union County.
Former Union County Sheriff Wesley Howard Wells, former County Supervisor Donald R. Betenbaugh, former County Tax Assessor Willie E. Randall Jr. and Union County residents Willie Dee Farr and Lapriest Darnell Beacham were sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Spartanburg , S.C., U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said in a news release issued by his office.
The sentencings by U.S. District Judge Henry F. Floyd were the result of guilty pleas to charges stemming from four indictments issued by a federal grand jury in September 2009 after an investigation into public corruption in Union County. http://www.gsabusiness.com/news....ntenced What's that mean HG, that because you can find a few bad hat sheriffs they are all idiots?

What is your point exactly. That all sheriffs are corrupt? Do you have anything on the 243 sheriffs that have made statements opposing new gun control to one extent or another?

The point is that Sheriff is an elected position and by no means indicates they should be trusted to interpret the Constitution anyway they seem fit.

They swear an oath to uphold the constitution and if they have any integrity they will. Presidents, senators, congress persons are all elected as well. They too cannot be trusted to interpret the constitution, just promote it.

That's why there's a process in place that makes it difficult to amend the Constitution. You don't just get to change it because you personally don't like it. Your contempt for the Constitution offers further evidence that your citizenship is not what you claim.

Your hilarious. These sheriffs don't wish to change the constitution. But rather uphold it. My sheriff in Oklahoma is on the list of 243. He's made a lot of people happy here.

Personal insults? You're not making sense. Is English a second language for you?

Having a different opinion than your own always seems to equate to people being dumb, ignorant, moronic, living in the fantasy world and all the other insults you regularly throw at people here. Do you feel superior somehow?

Not always, but in your case there seems to be a serious disconnect with reality. A sheriff ignoring the law is not standing up for the Constitution. And yes, I feel superior to you in several different ways.

A sheriff standing up for the constitution is not ignoring the law. And you don't even know who your talking to, so your comment is very ridiculous.

I know I'm talking to a guy who embraces bizarre conspiracy theories and can't spell basic words, who questions other's patriotism but spells common words the way non-American English speakers do.
A sheriff ignoring the law is not "standing up for the Constitution."

QUOTE I'm going with the story in the op. So you agree with the following:
QUOTE Wolfinger said he supports expanding background checks to apply to all firearms sales, as currently proposed at the federal level.
That includes gun shows and private sales, he said on Thursday, where background checks don't currently occur.
Good to hear.

I said I'm going with the story in the op. that's why it's up. Wolfinger has constitutional concerns with aspects of the proposal.

Well hell, if the sheriff of a Podunk county no one has ever heard of has opinions, guess we all ought to ignore the law.
