Daniel McClaine Jr., a freshman at Poston Butte High School in Florence, Az., said he was suspended from high school for having a picture of a gun on his school-issued laptop, Bryan Preston reported at PJ Media Monday.

Hollywood movies and video games with gratuitous depictions of gun violence, ok, but this benign photo is offensive.

If we can take a Zero Tolerance policy on drugs, why not guns? It was a school issued device, so they can have all the say they want about what is on it. No problem with this. One day, folks will come around to how bad this type of culture is.
BTW-- Once the media, those Leftists, contacted the school, it rescinded the suspension and allowed the kid to return to school.

What if a student had a photo of a pro sports team and someone (say me, who rates it down with kiddie porn) took offense? Where does the Offensive" line get drawn and exactly who gets to draw it?
A better policy would be no screensavers or desktop backgrounds allowed except those that come stock on the computer or even none at all.

Yes a zero policy on drugs and guns, no drugs in school, no guns in school, but a picture of a mj leaf or a picture of a rifle! A little over the top.

Some school districts already ban team apparel based on gang clothing. Most will prohibit clothing with a MJ leaf on it.
Your employer can tell you what can be on a computer belonging to that employer. School district can tell kids what screen savers can be on the computers. I agree the policy should be in writing and handed out with the device, or when changes occur. In this case, the kid got sent home for the rest of the day. Not bad.

Ok oz. I was never questioning the schools right to prohibit anything.

Pro sports are just as obscene as KP due to the way players are deified and the insane amounts they get paid.

Man, what a stupid kid. Did the teacher tell him to delete -- and he refused or something? That could be ground for suspension. But seriously, if the kid deleted it right away, said sorry, and promised never to do it again... then I think suspension is way overkill. What will the school do with more serious offenses next time -- when kids have gotten used to being suspended?
