QUOTE Ironic...because the Texas Motor Speedway is a gun-free zone in which law abiding licensed concealed carry citizens are not allowed to carry their firearms. QUOTE Guests are not allowed to bring these items into Texas Motor Speedway - weapons or firearms, .... http://www.texasmotorspeedway.com/at-track/guest-services/rulesThe good old boys in Texas should stop worrying about what is going on in new York and start complaining and protesting about their own archaic firearms laws. I believe the term is now called "Mass-Murder Zone"!

Texas Motor Speedway is making both the Victory Lane six-shooters and pole winner's shotgun optional for the teams and drivers.

Why, many mass murders have been committed in gun free zones.

I'm good with gun free zones for large events as the security provided by the promoter is generally high and I can decide if I want to participate in the event or not.
I'd guess there will be plenty of cops and private security on hand for the race.

Well, at least that is support for one small step toward sensible gun control laws!
Gotta start somewhere! LOL

I'd guess there will be plenty of cops and private security on hand for the race. You are willing to submit your 2A rights to a private company's decision about the appropriate quality and quantity of security?
Texas state law prohibits you from being armed on any premises on which a professional sporting event is taking place.
And you are OK with that?
A gun-free zone is a gun-free zone regardless of the reason, be it a private land owners rule, a state law, or a federal law.
The state of Texas has both more gun-free zones than the State of New York and a higher violent crime rate than the state of New York.
The NRA should be organizing protest in front of the Texas legislature and governor's office.
I'd rather have 7 on my hip than 30 locked in the car.
But apparently, for the NRA it isn't about safety, but rather playing to the base.
NASCAR and Texas = Good to the NRA, New York = bad, even though the concealed carry laws in Texas are more restrictive.
Perhaps they are counting on the ignorance of the good of people of Texas not to peak behind their own curtain.
"Look over thar! Them yankees in New York want to take our guns away!"
But, in NY I can carry in a bar or restaurant or professional sporting event or church or medical facility. You can't do the same in Texas.
Up until this year, my CC was issued for life. Texas has always had a renewal requirement.

Why not give the drivers guns BEFORE the race? Now that's a race I would watch!

QUOTE Until such time as there is a complete gun ban in America, I feel that it should be a legal requirement that any gun free zone include provided professional security personnel. Otherwise, you are creating "target rich" environments that attract deranged shooters. History has shown that these mass shooters seek out gun free zones.
Most large events already provide professional security. So I don't see why anyone, even the gun nuts and NRA, would object to such a common sense regulation. I like your idea, although I'm not sure you would like the potential implications. If there were a legal requirement for professional protection to be provided in a venue where firearms were banned, then there would logically be a valid reason for a victim to seek legal redress should that protection fail.
Personally, I'd love to see that high standard implemented, along with the right to legal redress. It will make anyone think twice about declaring someplace a "gun free zone" without also fully considering how defenseless people will be protected.
The end result would be that the only declared "gun free zones" would be ones that involved thorough screenings and metal detectors. That mean airports, courtrooms, etc., and not much else. That's the way it should be.

If it's private property then the owner determines the policy. I decide if I want to buy a ticket and attend.
Reasonable Regulation fellows.....
The problem with reasonable is we all have a different concept of it. Carry in places where security is low.....large crowds with security provided, where alcohol is consumed in large quantities many not be such a good idea.
I've been to many races.....and seen lots of fights at them. Not so much now, but boy, back in the 1960's there was always a fight in the pits, and always a fight in the grandstands.
There's a time and a place for everything.
