QUOTE
Dr. James David Manning, the notoriously controversial chief pastor at the ATLAH World Missionary Church in New York City, recently delivered a bold and controversial message to his congregants about the black community’s perception of the George Zimmerman trial. He urged his mostly black congregation to stop viewing the world through their “black eyes” and start looking at it through the “blood of Jesus.”

If they did that, the pastor explained, there would be no denying that the verdict in the Zimmerman was the correct one. He also told those who are convinced that Zimmerman is guilty that they only believe that because they are black.

“The only reason why you think that way is because you’re black,” Manning preached. “You see the world, not through the blood of Jesus, you see the world through your black eyes. You have not changed yet.”

He went on: “You’re black before you’re anything. You’re black before you’re Christian, you’re black before you’re holy ghost, you’re black before you’re anything. You’re blackness is greater than your religion. And that’s why with you, Zimmerman’s guilty.”

‘YOU SEE THE WORLD THROUGH YOUR BLACK EYES’

That guy must be a racist.

Nogods, you are clearly educated and insightful. Sadly you keep posting things that sound deeply prejudicial. Are you ignoring the fact that McCain was militant, old and picked a lunatic for a running mate? I think that you are. Just sayin'

You can probably peel that hypothetical back a few years further than the presidential election....say to 04 when he was a state senator.  How does a state senator become president unless than 4 years?  (hint: white guilt of suburban house moms)

As close as Obama's first election to POTUS was and as many racists who admitted voting for him solely because he was black, there's no doubt his skin color was the primary reason he did get elected.

Two state races arguably had African American turnout and voting swing the state to Obama: Virginia and North Carolina: those 28 electoral votes would have hardly dented the 365 to 173 final tally.

"The election saw increased participation from African Americans, who made up 11.1% of the electorate in 2004, versus 13.0% in 2008.[214] According to exit polls, over 95% of African Americans voted for Obama. This played a critical role in southern states such as North Carolina. 74% of North Carolina's registered African American voters turned out, as opposed to 69% of North Carolinians in general, with Obama carrying 100% (with rounding) of African-American females and African Americans age 18 to 29, according to exit polling.[215] This was the case in Virginia as well where much higher turnout among African Americans propelled Obama to victory in the former Republican stronghold.[216]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki....stricts

Come on: the Great Recession? TWO wars of total fiasco? NO killing of Bin Laden? McCain cheerleading Bush about those incompetently conducted wars? Palin not being able to handle the notorious interview tiger Katie Couric??? The ever increasing evidence invading Iraq was the result of lies, deception and conspiracy bordering on outright treason?

That President Obama only won by ten million votes is the puzzle.

Ten million more votes is not "close".

365 to 173 in the Electoral College is not "close".

52.9% versus 45.7 is not "close".

George W. Bush's first election? Now that was close: 5 to 4 is about as tight as it get's eh? :)

By that argument those who voted for Kennedy because he was catholic were bigots.

Not that much of a puzzle:
QUOTE
Add up the totals throughout the country, and racial animus cost Mr. Obama three to five percentage points of the popular vote. In other words, racial prejudice gave John McCain the equivalent of a home-state advantage nationally.

That's just one attempt to quantify the impact of racism in 2008; others may come up with different numbers. What's beyond dispute, though, is that there was a non-trivial impact.

The racism denialists who argue otherwise (who even argue that Obama is President because of his race, as crazy as that sounds to any thinking person) belong in the fantasy-based company of birthers, 9/11 troofers, and prequel apologists.

Yet the 43 to 55 (adding Dole and Perot) split of the white vote was exactly the same as for Clinton in 96?

That sort of data, via exit polls, has a fuzzy factor, but evenso?

Kerry lost the White vote by a larger margin (58 Bush to 41) than Obama and won the African American vote by only  slightly less, 11 Bush to 88.

We can always count on High_Sierra_Fan to deflate assumptions and opinions with facts and figures.

LameBeaver what percent of any election do you think is based on purely irrational prejudices? McCain got votes because some people thought Palin was hot. G.W. got votes because people felt like he was someone they could drink a beer with. Elected school boards have near illiterate ex-coaches that won a lot of games.

Here's how I see it

Of all the people in the world:

30% are complete morons

30% are none too smart

30% are intelligent in some way or another

Let's say 50% of the first group don't vote, 25% of the second group, and 10% of the third group

So basically 50% of the voting public is either a complete moron or is none too smart.

Draw your own conclusions

I did the math on LB's post, and he is pretty well right.

As much as I believe that I would be a historically great dictator, I think that we need to improve our education game if we want to be a successful democratic republic. There is too little success at teaching critical thinking. Diverse ideas are good, even if all of those ideas aren't.

I voted for Obama.......twice.

Does that make me a double-bigot?

Or maybe because I voted the way I did was because I thought McCain and Romney were not the best persons to lead this country.

If GOP'ers still believe Obama's skin color was a net positive, there is no way they can become wise enough by 2016 to nominate an electable candidate.

My governor, Rick Perry, dense as he is, recognizes the mindset increasingly dominating the GOP, which explains why he's got a shot at the nomination.

I voted for Obama both times - and it had nothing to do with the fact that he is black. I would have voted for him if he had been white - or Amerindian or Asian, etc. I voted for the man and the Democratic Party that he represents.

Like Elizabeth Warren, who claimed to be a minority in order to get financial help and admission to Harvard, Barrack Obama DID have some advantages because of his race. But Barrack Obama is a very intelligent hard working and ethical man who would probably have become President without racial preferences.

I think that MOST black people agree with Dr Manning. Black people watched the trial too. Black lawyers know the law just as white lawyers do. But like Barrack Obama, most black people have experienced times in their lives when they felt that they were treated as inferior, or profiled as criminals, BECAUSE they were black.

So I think that black people are more likely to empathize with Trayvon Martin when Zimmerman followed him. White people just don't understand how feeling treated differently because you are black creates a bit of anger - an emotional scar that is slow to heal .

Dr Manning is right I think - and most blacks know that. But it is hard not to let past slights due to racism cloud feelings when such a tragedy has happened. This is especially true when the initial media reports incorrectly played up the angle that a white racist stalked a small black child and killed him - then wasn't even arrested.

By insisting on the DOJ retrying Zimmerman and a review of the self defense laws that freed Zimmerman, black people are simply venting some frustration. By calling for repeal of the "stand your ground" laws, black people are wanting something good to come of this senseless death. They know that "stand your ground" is not what freed Zimmerman. But black Americans want their frustration to be heard.

In the final analysis, most black Americans DO see the truth.
