Poor BO. I wonder why he even wanted this job.

He expected more reasonable people to deal with for sure.

When he was elected I flashed on Nixon: why anyone would have voluntarily sought to follow behind Johnson's crapping elephant was beyond me.

Nope, the steaming pile Johnson left behind was far larger than that.

I see what you mean, actual implementation of civil rights and voting rights for all Americans is a really terrible thing.

America managed to avoid them for 100 years after the Civil War supposedly made them the law of the land, and that dam Johnson had to go and upset the apple cart!!

Wouldn't have no black, foreign President of the US, but for LBJ!

I guess commies pop up all over, even Texas!!   :p

Try all those extra names that would get added to a wall in D.C.

Plus the ones who wouldn't come back even in a bag or would come back to be rather frequent clients of the V.A. system.

As Nixon dealt with extracting America from Southeast Asia from amidst a war (oh yes, that war) into which  Johnson had poured hundreds of thousands of troops.

Hard to rate LBJ.  By some measurements, one of the best.

In others, worse than Dubya, especially ref. body count.

At least LBJ never went cycling with soldiers he needlessly caused to get maimed.

LBJ & GWB -- the two worst presidents in my lifetime (Ike was prez when I wuz born).

LBJ can be commended for signing Civil Rights legislation even though he must have known it would ultimately cost his party the South. But the war in Vietnam destroyed the great potential of the 1960's. Instead of a young generation of Americans asking what they could do for their country, they were fed through the meat grinder of a senseless war and/or alieniated from "the establishment."

GWB and the senior partner in his administration (Dick Cheney) are war criminals in my book, and belong in prison. Their body count was smaller but their lies more numerous, and our country is less able to rebound from the damage they inflicted.

Hard to celebrate with the state of our nation today, but I can at least be thankful that old man warmonger McCain wasn't elected 5 years ago.

And that Sarah Palin wasn't one heartbeat away from the presidency.

And that vulture capitalist Romney isn't in position to hand even more to the growing plutocracy.
