What do they put in the water down there? Killing a guy for throwing popcorn in your face and claiming "stand your ground"?

Kind of like the thread about American's becoming increasingly angry as a whole.  People are increasingly losing their sense of proportion while firearms are more widespread (blame the media for deliberately incensing people, blame the NRA and ALEC for pushing more guns, … whoever)

Do I really want to go to a movie at a theatre without armed security?  Maybe a metal detector?   What good is concealed carry if a madman in a darkened theatre will ambush you?  All economics is marginal and these companies may need to pay a price for continued support of ALEC and their pushing more guns.

I'm sure this shooter considered himself to be "a good guy with a gun" (as the NRA likes to hype it)

I would much rather take my chances with the unlikely possibility of an Aurora event than have theaters full of "good guys with guns".

Nobody is charging the killing scumbags with premeditated murder or attempted murder either even though that's what they're doing when they turn the key after drinking.

Why do we allow private citizens to carry guns into public places? There were town gun bans long ago, I look for the saner among us to bring them back.

As JCB implied out automobiles are HEAVILY regulated even though they are not specifically designed to maim or kill like a firearm is. The resistance to actually honoring the entire second amendment is juvenile to put it incredibly kindly.

So what is your point

The point is we were told we would be safer with guys like this running around packing.

In all honesty, this is one of the people I would have had no problem with having a CCP. There is something going on within our society that makes people react strangely to perceived threats or slights. From this to people shooting people knocking on their doors or people shooting neighbors who are taking out the trash or shooting kids for playing loud music at a gas station.

Now that I list all these instances, I realize the shooters in each were all old white males. What that means, I don't know. Kinda glad Mr. Wilson wasn't packing when Dennis the Menace lived next door.

They should ban popcorn in movie theaters, and cell phones.

Weird, actually, sort of a road rage.  Cops should know about use of deadly force so you would not expect this from them so much, abuse, beating maybe, or perhaps I am naive , I know the police here are better than most places.

It does show you never know what might happen when you confront people.

I mean, why are some people so willing to create such a situation?  What makes people think it's okay to throw something at anyone?

I REALLY hope we haven't reached the point where before we say something to someone doing something objectionable in public, we have to ask ourselves: "Could they have a gun"?
Fine, it's stupid and immature to throw your popcorn on someone, but such behavior doesn't call for the death penalty.
I'm a DA, the mitigating circumstance of assault by popcorn means I offer to reduce the charge to manslaughter from 2nd degree murder, with at least 10 years hard prison time in exchange for guilty plea and the victim's wife gets your pension, you won't be needing it where you are going. Dude is 71, retired cop, it's essentially a life sentence.

I agree, people should be more polite to one another.

But please don't tell me you're trying to justify this murderers actions on the premise that the guy he killed was being impolite?

And as far as "Think before you confront someone"…the murderer initiated the confrontation.  I guess he thought he can do and say whatever the hell he likes since he was packing.  And his poor behavior left a man dead and will likely send him to prison for the rest of his life.  All over a text and some popcorn - utterly frickin ridiculous!

the issue isn't if this or that was a joke, the issue usually is if you meant it as a joke

like when you said But if they cut off the jobless benefits, those people will be forced

revenue will help pay down the national debt

clearly be a joke but said by someone like lame, clearly he wasn't joking
