I will be in Redwoods NP in early April for 2 nights of backpacking.  I am looking at DemartinCamp and Nickel creek camp for potential campsites. Anyone have comments or suggestions on these campsites? Thanks

With all the people who want to backpack in the redwoods, it's too bad they don't put in a few more trails and primitive campsites.

DeMartin Camp is a bit of an enigma.  It has 10 grassy sites with picnic tables, yet I have never seen another person up there, even in mid-summer.  It has an amazing outhouse I refer to as the Taj Mahal.  DeMartin camp also has a LOT of bear activity.  Even though I've never seen a bear up there, there is a lot of bear scat.  Fortunately, there's also a bear box.

Although there is a water spigot, there is no water, so make sure to bring it.  If you approach from the South, you won't see any Redwoods at all, but not too far North of camp is a really impressive stand of Redwoods (they all are...)

Nickel Creek is now under recreation.gov or one of those places.  Good thing too, since it's a quarter mile from the parking lot on Enderts Beach Rd., accessible to anyone driving in and squatting.  The campsite isn't super-amazing or anything but the beach down below it is pretty nice.  The trail South of Nickel Creek is really nice -- the old abandoned highway.

Thanks Null for the info, it helps a lot. Is parking an issue as far as vandalism or any other problems that might be a concern? Are fires allowed at both of these campsites and if so, is there wood to be found?

Vandalism at trailheads is pretty bad.  If you can find a way to leave your car at one of the RV parks just north of the Klamath River and get a ride up to Klamath Overlook, that's a great place to start your hike.

I think fires are allowed at both sites, but there isn't a lot of downed wood nearby.
