I only did one hike on Oahu (1986). That was to Sacred Falls. According to this and this it is closed.

I liked the rough, volcanic coastline south of Cook's Bay.

Phoo, wrong island.

There are several nice hikes on Oahu, and each of them offers views from the top of a ridge to both sides of the island.    I liked Hawaiian Hiking Trails by Craig Chisholm, a thin volume but with good trail descriptions and directions to the TH.  Look for Manoa Cliffs, Mañana, and Jackass Ginger Pool.

How many hours do you want to spend hiking on a day?  Mañana is about 8 hrs, JG pool is about 1 hr, and Manoa cliffs is about 4 hrs.  Mañana may have been the toughest hike I did on Oahu.

Then, there is the obligatory climb of Diamond Head.  Take a flashlight and binos.  Water also.

I'm good up to 12-15 miles a day.  Hours doesn't matter too much..maybe 9-11 at the most.
