Planning our trip fro Colorado Springs - looking to head to Great Sand Dunes via Hwy 160, then south into NM via 159/522, then possibly cut over to Chaco via Hwy 4/44 - what are these roads (typically) like in February?

The access to Chaco Cultural NHP itself is noted as I recall it, chancy when the weather goes bad.

Yeah, I know, I tried to go there in October one year and because of rain the road was slippery as heck and I didn't make it. But I don't know what this year has been like out there so far, and I've never been on these highways in February.

Ah the irony.
I have been over various northern New Mexico highways in winter and they struck me as well maintained.
Yeah we were warned by park staff to be on the watch for incoming storms which can trap visitors inside the park.

Yeah, have to watch the weather, I was just trying to get a general idea...
The weather right now look great - 56* in CO Spgs today and sunny/clear all week

4 is paved but is small as you go through Jemez Springs (great little commercial hot spring in that town btw). Right not the region is only at half it's normal snowfall, but snow can occur at anytime.
In event of big snow, you may want to consider the main highways through Taos, Espanola, to the bypass around Santa Fe to I-25. Go down to Bernalillo outside of Albuquerque, then take the main highway up towards Chaco. The highways, everything from 4 to I-25, can be full at times.

I think access is now safer from the North to Chaco.

Update - 160 was snowed in as we drove past from CO Springs, so we opted to drive south... visited Roswell, Carlsbad Caverns, Guadalupe Mtns, White Sands, and west to Saguaro instead

lol, yes, lots to see and do around there - went to Carlsbad Caverns, Guadalupe Mountains, and Smokey Bear Historical Park
