I'm trying to piece together a 6 day backpacking trip in/around Yosemite next July.  Looking at all the maps, the Ansel Adams JMT area looks incredible but also more logistically difficult to get to.

So my question: Is the AA area with the added time/logistics?

Ideally, I think(?) that starting at Devils Postpile NM and ending at Tuolumne Meadows would be the best, provided that I can find a ride back to the car from TM.

Thanks for your time!

The Yosemite Yarts (bus) provides your answer. Twice a day during the summer season - a morning (and an evening)  bus route - Mammoth Mountain Inn parking lot - Tuolumne Meadows - Yosemite Valley - (other returns). I believe it costs less than $10.00 MM - TM. Call Yarts for times and exact schedule.
That only leaves getting down to Agnew/Reds from Mammoth Mountain Inn parking lot - another bus/ another route - runs every half hour or so - ~$7.00.

YARTS bus is the ticket no pun intended. My son and I are doing nearly the same this July. Will leave the car at Happy Isles, take the bus back to Mammoth, camp at Old Shady Rest (near the first stop) and start at Agnew the next morning. From the valley, it's $15 one way.

BTW, if you get a permit all the way to Happy Isle, you can do Half Dome without a separate permit since you're coming from outside the park. After Inyo told me that, I called Yosemite wilderness office to confirm they were right given the new permit restrictions. The exception to that seems to be PCT hikers, which I don't understand. They've always had to obtain separate permits for some reason.
