Planning on backpacking 4 days from the blackrock  trailhead .
have not been to this area before.
my planned route is :
casa vieja meadows.
beer keg meadow
redrock meadow
templeton cow camp
strawberry creek
long canyon
back to casa vieja meadows

Has anyone backpacked this area before?
My Harrison map shows lots of creeks,Do you feel there will be ample water this year?
also I realize I will be traveling across a lot of open areas on this route near the meadows.I was also hoping for shade on other parts so I can get relief from the sun.
Thanks in advance for any insight!

Hiya, westcoastwilly.

It'd be helpful if you would tell us where on Earth are Blackrock Trailhead and those other places you mentioned.

O.k. Haven't been there. Maybe Tarol will chime in - she's familiar with that area.

There should be plenty of shade & water. It's a beautiful piece of forest - some of these people who want to backpack the desert in the middle of summer should consider it.

Call the Kernville Ranger Station for the latest updates.  It's been a dry winter, but since it's June there should be plenty of water.  As it gets towards July/August, then maybe not so much.  The first part of that area did burn in a fire a few years back.  That area is frequented by backcountry horsemen - and cows.  Bring a good water filter.
