I am trying to find backpacking campsite coordinates, so I can  use my GPS to estimate distance to destination, and other things to make my GPS more useful and fun to bring.

GPS coordinates or simple longitude and latitude.

Does anyone have some or know how to find them online?

I know they can be pulled from topos or google earth but finding the campsites on maps in Michigan is proving impossible.

not sure what you're looking for.

what trails and/or properties are you wanting?  what maps are you consulting?  I never bothered with any of that when I hiked the MRT.  I just made camp in a flat, dry spot far enough back from the edge of the bluffs that the wind was reduced (did my trip in October and it got cold at night).

I worked on the Huron NF for a summer and we didn't have a single "walk in" campsite on the forest.  We had some pretty rustic car camp sites, but that's about it.  I also don't recall seeing such sites on the Manistee when I hiked the MRT, but I did not travel the whole forest then.  I didn't see them on the Hiawatha, either, when I visited the UP.  All three occasions, I either camped in a designated campground or dispersed along the trail.

I don't know about any of the state properties, but I'd suspect not.  I've only seen designated "walk in" campsites in PA, to be honest.  I have not seen a single one in Indiana, Michigan, or Ohio, and I've spent years in these areas.  Obviously I have not hiked everything in said states, but if there are any around, they are uncommon.

I know the ones on Grand Island are in the guide book that is available. The ones up at the Porkies I would think that the park office might have if you write them. I'm not sure if the new maps for the Manistee River Trail and the Jordan River Pathways plus North And South Manitou Islands have them listed. Check them out at    http://www.michigantrailmaps.com/store.html

The ones for Pictured Rocks I would contact the Park Service to see if they have them. Check out the NCT website for ones on there or contact the local chapters in MI.

Ok I don't care if they are labeled walk in campsite, I just want coordinates to campsites on backpacking trails.

Another resource is to ask about this over on some of the meetup groups to see if any of them has GPS coordinates. Here  are some backpacking meetup groups in MI:

WOW! I just took at the links you posted and love them.
Lots of good stuff here, I didn't think there was much of anything online for Michigan.
