Any opinions would be very welcomed. Was originally planning Aspen for May, until I realized it was still going to be Winter there that time of year. Anyone have any recommendations for a week long trip in may?

Grand Gulch though by late may it will be getting kind of warm and water sources perhaps less reliable.

Southern Utah would be a good place. All kinds of choices there. Badlands/Custer forest in south dakota could be good, ive been there in may before. Also, northern Yellowtone, such as hellroaring and slough creek could be snow free.

Canoe the Green R. just above the Confluence with the Colorado (Canyonlands NP). Do dayhikes and short BP's away from the river. River is relatively benign there, scenery awesome, a canoe camp relatively comfy. Eary May perfect timing. Arches, ruins. A credible nomination for "best flatwater trip anywhere."

QUOTE Gila Wilderness, New Mexico. There's a reason Mr. Leopold pushed for it to be our first Wilderness. I don't think you'll find a finer suggestion. Be sure to check on which areas have recently burned. Those fires covered a big area.
