Well, OK. But that's the nearest town to where the hike ends. The sooner one finds a shower after a 5-day hike, the better.

Which way are you heading afterwards and are you looking for a campsite or hotel? Or just a place to shower before hitting the road?

Vail will be pricy - I'm a big fan of Glenwood Springs which is about an hour west.  There are more camping options and more reasonable lodging, as well as the Hot Springs where you could get a shower with your entry fee.

We'll be heading east--we live in Kansas.

Not spending the night--just looking for a shower and a meal before the trek home. We often hit KOAs for the showers, but the nearest one is almost all the way back to Denver.

Some towns have laundromats or other places with showers, but Vail may be too uppity for such things.

I would google truck stops and fitness centers.   I bet one or the other can be found.  Maybe just call the chamber of commerce.   That's what I did when I was looking for a place to shower in Aspen.

Gore Range...we're planning to head up the Piney River to Upper Piney Lake and do a few days of off-trail trips and scrambles from there, then possibly bag Mt. Powell on the way back to the car.

This is probably your best bet heading east:

http://silverthorneclub.com/

Plenty of decent grub in Silverthorne, Dillon, Frisco

I like the Mountain Lion Cafe
Dillon Dam Brewery
Murphy's

Dillon Dam Brewery is good. The hot springs in Idaho Springs doesn't  qualify as a proper shower but might be nice. I've heard mixed reviews about it.

Where you need to go for luxurious, (and free,) showers, hot tubs and swimming pools, is the surprisingly large number of older resorts in Summit County that do not require a room key to access their pool areas...

The best is the huge Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge. Just walk in the lobby on the south side of the street, take the elevator to the second floor, (tell your kids not to establish eye-contact with anybody,) walk across the bridge to the North side of the street ,and immediately turn left into the vast pool area, where there are absolutely no hotel staff or lifeguards whatsoever.

You don't even need any towels, they are laying around in neatly stacked piles everywhere, even by the superhot outdoor tubs.

Just read this on another forum and remembered this thread:
Leadville has showers at the laundry in town
