I will be in Redwoods NP in early April for 2 nights of backpacking.  I am looking at DemartinCamp and Nickel creek camp for potential campsites. Anyone have comments or suggestions on better trails or areas to backpack in? Thanks

I was in Redwoods NP over the summer. Do you have any more details of your trip plans? I'm no expert on the area, but maybe with some more information I could offer some perspective.

From what I can gather from the crude maps I found, I'm looking at going between the 2 campsites on the Coast trail. I'm also looking for safe parking at trailheads in the area. It sounds like I will be too early due to bridge removals to hike in the dispersed camping area along the river so I thought the campsites I listed might be nice. Any thoughts??

We stayed at Gold Bluff Beach #25 the DAY it became a hike/bike site last summer. That's by far the best place to stay now though it looks like there may not be services there until later in the season.

Everything I'd read indicated Nickel Creek and DeMartin weren't all that great. Issues with some trailhead breakins also.

Bridges aren't required unless you care about getting your feet wet, but the creek level could be too high to safely camp. We also spent a night there. If it hasn't rained for a couple days it may be OK, but you should ask the rangers what gage level is safe. Rather than do the full 8 miles up, we did the Emerald Ridge trail down to it and then a couple miles along the creek (need to stay at least 1/4 from the Tall Trees Grove) and then went up TT trail the next day. To access the TH though you need a free permit and gate code.
