I'm looking for a hiking partner to join me on a remote 10 day walk in the Wrangell Mountains. Leave from McCarthy, AK. on or about Aug. 1, 2013 via a bush flight to start the hike from the Mount Wrangell plateau. I am an UL hiker but probably will go heavier on this trip because of the rugged weather and terrain. No trails, so route finding skills will be challenged. Also demanding stream and glacier crossings. I've never done a trip in AK., but have crossed glaciers in the Wind Rivers, WY.

Tiscon :)

I believe Walkingman guides hikers up in that country. Not sure about hickers though, his politics are probably too moderate for them.

Did you post in Find a Hiking Partner? Also check out the backpacker.com and the Trailtalk group on Facebook. Summipost.org would be a good place to look at too, but be sure to NOT post in the forum and go look at the Partners section.

Yes, i am sure there are several guides out there that take groups or maybe even single hikers.  What's the difference between a hiker and a hicker?  Thanks for tips on Summit and Face.  Tiscon

Will you backpack from the Mount Wrangell plateau back to McCarthy? If you talk to St. Elias Alpine Guides or Wrangell Mountain air they might be able to connect you with someone to hike with and help with any trip planning/air drops if need be.

Hi Tiscon

That's a rugged hike. Be sure to get some good beta on the route.

You won't need an ice ax, but you WILL want trekking poles. Where are you hiking to?

Cheers

Carl
