I may do a backpack trip in Hells Canyon next week.  I never been there although I have hike the Grand Canyon many times.  Is this a good time of year to hike Hells Canyon?  Does anyone know of a 30 to 40 mile loop with water sources?
Thanks for any advice

This is indeed a good time to hike in Hells Canyon.

I've only hiked along the river trail on the Idaho side.  If you do the whole trail one way it's around 30 miles.  Typically I take a jet boat from Upper Pittsburg Landing get dropped off at either Sheeps Creek or Bernard Creek then hike back downstream to Upper Pittsburg Landing.

You could create some interesting loops if you would consider hiking through the 7 Devils down the river and back.  Sorry, but I don't have my maps here to check for you.

Hope this helps!

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Sincerely,

Randy

Another quick thought..........

There are other options for the Oregon side of Hells Canyon.  I have done the Imnaha River hike but it's no where near 30 miles.

If it is not too late, here is a link to a map of the Seven Devils loop that has a few trails that head down to the Snake.

I went from Pittsburg landing to sheep canyon.  A 4 day 30 mile hike.  I only wish I had more time.  It was great hike.
Thanks
