Planning a run from Keyes Gap to Crampton's gap:

1) Is the parking area at Keyes Gap still bad news?  I'd heard there was a lot of vandalism there a few years ago.  Safe to leave a car?

2) Is there room for tent camping around the Ed Garvey shelter?

3) Any water along this section? (besides the rivers)

Thanks!  :)

We have parked at Keys Gap a couple of times and haven't had problems.  That being said, that parking lot is full of windshield glass.  We sort of crossed our fingers when we've hiked there.

I think there are some decent campsites around the shelter (which is a really nice one), but it has been a while since I was there.

I am almost certain there is no water outside of the rivers/canal from Harpers Ferry to Ed Garvey shelter.  My memory is fuzzier about streams from Keys Gap to HF, but I don't think there's much of anything.

I was at Ed Garvey in August. There is a reasonable amount of space around for tents. There was a whole boy scout troop tenting there. The only water is a long walk down the mountain from the shelter

This is what I remember as well.

There will be some side streams just south of Harpers Ferry, between the Shenandoah bridge and the next road trail south from there.  I suspect at least one will have water almost year round.
