Family is passing through this area on spring break.  We plan to hike McAfee Knob and Mt. Rogers.  We're looking for one or two other shorter hikes.  Distance - anywhere from 4 to 8 miles.  Peaks, waterfalls, all fine.  Preferably not too crowded but we can deal with folks if the scenery is great.  We are specifically looking at the I-81 stretch from Harrisonburg south through Roanoke or possibly Blacksburg.  Any recommendations?  (And we are looking at MidAtlantichikes.com for recommendations as well.)  Many thanks!

Grayson Highlands is about an hour or two away from Roanoke and is one of my favorite areas (Mt Rogers is in that area).  You could easily do a 4-8 mile in and out day hike.  Great views of endless mountains, fairly easy trails for the family (if you have small kids), wild ponies, and more.
