Maybe JininMD can shed some light on this. I'm supposed to lead a hike starting at Blockhouse Point County Park. It includes hiking 2.5 miles of the towpath between Pennyfield and Violet's Locks. Are the access points posted or are people using it? I need to make my decision to stay with the plan or relocate the venue tonight.

I'll send a text to tomas, he lives near there.

I knew it was one of you. I guessed at the wrong one. Should have looked at my previous post.

The C&O is closed. I went fishing at Pennyfield Lock on wednesday and found a chain with a "closed" sign hanging from it across the road leading from the large parking lot to the small parking lot near the foot bridge. The parking lot, however, was wide open and full of cars. No ranger present which wasn't a surprise.

Blockhouse is owned and operated by MoCo and should be open. Once again the most you'll find is a chain across the C&O access and I doubt even that will be there.

Thanks Tomas. If this was a renegade hike I would have no apprehension about trying it but this is a Sierra Club sanctioned outing. I can see the headlines now "Sierra Club Outing Leader Arrested for Trespassing on NPS Property - Severely Beaten before Lead Away in Handcuffs .... film at 11".

Have you considered the Seneca Greenway Trail? You can easily do a point-to-point hike, say Riley's Lock to Blackrock Mill.

We're doing the Patapsco hike I just posted. The Outings Chair made my mind up for me. We'll be moving the Blockhouse Point hike to the day after Turkey Day.
