All,

Just wanted to spread the word about a quality fundraising  event that's going on in our region.  The Ultimate Hike is a fundraiser that works in conjunction with CureSearch For Children's Cancer.  They raise money to treat children diagnosed with cancer as well as study child treatment methods.

The Ultimate Hike is a 28.3 mile day hike that is the culmination of the fundraising efforts.  I did the event last year and it is a ton of fun and for a great cause.

This year I will be returning, but as the head coach.  I'll be coordinating training hikes generally keeping track of people on the trail .

That is the Knoxville hike, but there are others in our region including Chatanooga, Raleigh, and ...others I can't think of right now.

I believe it's Sloan Bridge to Oconee State Park, but I could be off a bit on the start.

It's the easier section of the trail.

Took the group I was with about 13 1/2 hours.  It was a little slow going towards the end, but I didn't want to lose anyone.

No, you don't have to stay with the group.  I just made friends with a few people and wanted to finish with them.

There was one guy that ran the 6 miles from the final rest stop.  He wasn't trying to set a record, and almost did.  When he realized he was within 30 minutes of the record he was kind of upset.  I expect to see him back this year.  I believe the fastest it's been done is 6 1/2 hours, but my memory is a bit fuzzy.

We start at 2am, so it would be difficult running at night.
