i hate to speculate but it's probably a little safer than your average trailhead with the State Park next door ... lotsa folks driving up for the views at Roan High Knob.

but if ya don't wanna have to worry about it, there's a hiker hostel just down the hill that does shuttles and junk:  http://www.mountainharbour.net/

just getting ready to call them about a shuttle...

they are on 19 e as opposed to carver's gap but their place will be my ending point...

from what a few things i read elsewhere---its a problematic parking area....

Parked ther several times never had a problem.  Nice parking lot with room for 20 plus cars and a privy.

i ended up getting a shuttle from the 19 E side over to the gap and did that section of the at coming back to the car.......
