Hello All,
Thinking about doing one of our few yearly backpacking trips to Savage Gulf Area in TN this year, in the spring. We are looking to do a 50 miler. Can I piece that together with the trails there,  and how populated will the trails be? I am looking for serious solitude. Difficulty does not scare us, I abhor easy long gentle strolls.

yeah, you could cover most of the trails in about 50 miles. for the most part the rim trails are easy and gentle but you're usually not too far from an overlook and every now and then you'll dip into a drainage to mix things up.

don't miss Schwoon Spring.

we usually encounter some fellow backpackers at Savage Gulf, but i think in the spring time during the week you might have a good chance at some solitude. Stone Door and some of the more accessible waterfalls will have the most day hikers. and Hobbs Cabin is crazy popular with the scouts. expect a visit from a ranger while you're at camp... so don't forget your permits and to keep your camp whiskey hidden.

If you abhor long easy strolls, you won't care for North Plateau or Laurel Trails.

North Rim and South Rim are scenic enough that you won't mind the easy walking. Big Creek Gulf, the west side of Collins Gulf, and Connector Trails will give you miles of fun, rough going.

Best bet for fewer campmates is Sawmill Camp. If you stay at Hobbs or Alum Gap, you'll want to hit those on a weeknight.
