I am heading on my first backpacking trek in March doing the North South Trail in LBL. I really dont know what to expect. There is a group of four of us and are allowing 4 days to do it.

Relatively easy terrain.  But that is a lot of mileage for your first time, 60+ miles.  Just FYI, I actually found more info on whiteblaze.net than here.

The north KY end of the trail has some very nice views. The south TN end of the trail is very boring, in my opinion, as it mainly follows the top of a wide ridge. All is well marked and maintained, but I have not been there in over a year. The LBL website has some nice topo trail maps. If you are all healthy 4 days should not be an issue, most of the terrain is flat and easy to walk on. If this is your groups first time out just do part between Golden Pond and the North Check in Station.  There is a tag to fill out and the trail head, if the container is stocked, for registration.
