So I am looking at doing a 4 night loop starting at Fontana Dam.

Fontana Dam - Lakeshore Trail to Campsite # 89.

#89 to Spence Field.

Spence Field down Jenkins Ridge Trail to #84 or #83.

#83 or #84 down Hazel Creek to Lakeshore Trail to #90.

#90 back Lakeshore Trail to Fontana Dam.

Thoughts?

That's a good loop........fairly easy to get out to 89 with not much elevation gain.....after that----it's a gradual uphill with many creek crossings (bring water shoes of some sort) to 97 then it hits the up hill section to spence.....

And Jenkins ridge is a good steady down hill to hazel....

You have to potential to see people heading out to 90 and then up to spence not as much and coming down Jenkins I doubt you'll see anyone.......hazel could have people but that other section of lakeshore is sparse til over near eagle creek........

Good loop....

You could also "cheat" this one and add other miles deep in the park by taking the shuttle over to 90 and you could also have it pick ya up at 86.....

Yea 2 years ago I did Lakeshore in Early April and once I got past #98 I only saw 1 person till I reach #90. However I did see two rangers at #86 who drove a boat in and then left.

Anyone else going to out at the beginning of April? The new permit systems looks easy enough to use. I'm hoping it will make crowded campsites less common.

Also how are the creek crossing up Eagle Creek? Should I be concerned at the beginning of April?

ahhhhhh.....

the creek crossings along 89.....

basically the last time i went up there---last summer---i kept my water crossing crocs on my feet from campsite 89 up to campsite 97....

no point putting them on and off all the time as there are numerous crossings and some only a couple of hundred yards apart....

after 97, there arent as many creek crossings, as this is the uphill climb to spence.....

the creek crossings will be up to your ankle, midshin, or knee..............

no easy rock hopping crossings til after 97.....
