There's a nip in the air. Days are getting shorter. I actually saw snow earlier today. And it's a bit windy.
Got me thinking about climbing Mt. Washington again (or Franconia ridge?) this winter... January or February. Maybe this year we'll have a good snow base. And bad weather.
So... who's interested?

There's a good chance I'd be interested in either of those two hikes, as I should have a few solid winter hikes in by then.

No question, count me in again this year! I'm game for Mt Washington, one of the Northern Presidentials, or even Franconia Ridge.
Funny thing is I just PMed you about ten minutes ago to see if you wanted to plan another winter trip. We'll have to get a pulk sled for this year's trip!

Very nice. One year I'd like to do it in some mild winter conditions. The three times I've done it, only once did I feel the force of mother nature's winter craziness and we never made it to above the treeline.
Looked like you had a beautiful day on the summit.

January 29, IIRC. Winds were 122 mph at sunrise. They subsided a bit as the day progressed.

Seriously? Holy crap, that story alone would make me keep indoors during storms.
Wow, the three times I've been there the weather was outstanding. Sure there was plenty of wind most of the time but no lightning or anything really dangerous to be concerned with.

Is it too soon to begin tossing out possible dates for a Mt Washington trip??

I might think about it. It will depend on my gear acquisitions during November and December.

It may have been 70 degrees in the Northeast today, but I'm still getting excited for winter backpacking and hiking and skiing trips!

I'm with you. Hiked the Presi traverse this past August and Franconia Ridge in November. Been dreaming of my first Winter Washington hike. Somebody set up a trip and I'm there

Someday I'd love to do that. As well as the Pemi loop. But heck, I've never hiked any mountain in the winter so a few less ambitious winter trips are in order first, give me a few years.
