Sun and a foot of snow on forest floor made for a great March 30th five-mile bushwhack with a group of friends:

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing. In what area of NY?
I'm in the Watertown area and do a lot of hiking and snow shoeing in the Barnes Corners area of Tug Hill.

That hike was in the Erie County Forest in southern Erie County near Springville, NY.  The FLT runs through the eastern half of the forest.  I lead that hike on a bushwhack through the western half of the forest.

Is there still snow in the Tug Hill area?

They say there is no such thing as a stupid question, but that comes close. :p

Hiked part of the Inman Gulf Glide last Saturday and there is still, or was on that day, 8 inches and more snow on the trails at Barnes Corners.
We hiked without snow shoes and while it was easily doable we were wishing we had spikes or crampons with us.

There were some people still cross country skiing while we were there.
It has been raining and warmer in the surrounding area this week. If it is the same up there the snow will be gone soon...I hope...

Snow is gone. We are getting 2 to 3 inches of rain.  Some creeks in suburban areas without flood control are already above their banks and covering creek side yards.  But there is a chance of ice or even snow if the cold front moves far enough south on Saturday.

I haven't even had winter in 2 years.  I've barely needed a coat.  Buying snow shoes would be taking hubris to new levels that the Heat Miser would doubtlessly punish me for.
