I still have my map of the high peaks but its very hard to tell what is exactly the "western peaks" ive been looking at donaldson mt, and the seward mountain range any insight would be great!

Forgive my bluntness, and I don't mean to be an @$$, but what does it matter which side of an imaginary line you're on?

Get a new map, like this one: Trails of the Adirondaks High Peaks Region.

Then that makes two of us that are confused.

Maybe you're asking what are the westernmost High Peaks? If that's the case, then you're looking at the Seward Range (Emmons, Donaldson, Seward, Seymour) and the Santanoni Range (Santanoni, Panther, Couchsacraga).

If not, then please restate your question.

Yes sorry for the confusion. I was previously hiking around mount marcy and that was considared the "eastern" high peaks. I want to hike in the western peaks bc according to the ADK your allowed to have a fire in the more western peaks rather then the eastern. I hope I made myself more clear

Merry Christmas everyone.  Okay I really looked at the map and I found the "westernside" I'm really curious about the Santanoni mountains. I've been reading my ad book and it looks like a place I want to go do you have any experience there? Also I'm trying to understand where exactly the parking is for this trail. Thanks sam

Here's one of my old trip reports:

http://www.summitpost.org/santanoni-range/169566

There are 3 Upper Works trailheads. The Santanoni trailhead is the first on the left (note that there are also several driveways for hunting camps/clubs on the left side of the road to the trailhead).

It's a bit convoluted to get there, but there are signs the entire way.  Just follow the signs and you should be OK. Hint - If you have a GPS, type in "Tahawus", which will bring you to the general vicinity of the 3 Upper Works trailheads. Here's a thread that discusses the trailhead:
