When Esbit stove fuel is still in the sealed packaging...how long can it be expected to be good for, as long as the packaging stays intact?

I found some "antique" esbit fuel tabs a few years back. They lit up just fine.

I think it has the shelf-life of a Twinkie (lasts forever) . . .

Tigger, did the burn still smell nasty after all those years?

It stunk...like something I wouldn't want near my food which is why I don't like those tabs in the first place.

Exactly why I don't use my esbit stove.  That stink kills my appetite.

Where I live they eat this stuff called Lutefisk. I am pretty sure that it is Esbit in a somewhat natural state. If you can call turning fish into boards with lye natural. Or fuel...

I fired some up that I found. It was a prize when I was in Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts. I just lit it and let it burn. Didn't try to cook anything with it. I was just more curious than anything.
