Just curious as to why one would want these...? Biologically speaking, it's actually better for that area to be a little cooler.

Tigger and Treeline: I'm with both of you on this but I'm asking for a friend. He's a hunter, not a backpacker and was calling on my expertise, which is obvioulsy limited in this area. But thanks for replying. If anyone has anything to add, I'd appreciate hearing from you. What he's actually looking for is down long underwear. Maybe it doesn't exist.

Why not a merino first layer (pants/underware) and down pants on top, something like the WM Flight... ? After all down has to be contained by downproof fabric, most not all that nice as a first layer.

well , that is underwear we wear downunder
here is proof.
I can't show you my unmentionables but you can see the puffy layer. Those are actually the Flash (lighter) version because it was 100f when that shot was taken. (Festivus is on the 23rd of Dec) I use the Flight for lower temps.

Down pants are great for hanging out in camp and sleeping.
I also use them for snowmobiling, wear a base layer under them and rain pants over the top.

Maybe get in touch with Ben from GooseFeet Gear. He could probably custom make him something. I have a pillow, down socks, overbooties and down pants from him and they are all great pieces.
-------------- Jus' sayin'...
