Has anyone camped or backpacked with any Alps tents. Along the lines of a vertex or a taurus two man? Any reviews would be helpful.

I haven't used them, but they seem heavy for the price, and many use fiberglass poles which I always avoid.
Other than that, I can't offer much.
If you're getting a sweet deal, perhaps. But for a budget tent, I've always leaned towards Kelty, or L.L.Bean.

No personal experience with one, but my son has used their solo model for years in all types of conditions during all seasons.  He seems pleased with it and he's a pretty accomplished, if somewhat poor, backpacker.

I would agree with all of the above. Several in our BP group have ALPS. 1-2 pounds heavier than the competition.  They look like design copies made with less expensive heavier materials.  More durable and great for Scout troops.
