While staying at a B&B on Besserer St. near the river, my friend's car was broken into overnight on Feb. 3. He lost the following gear:

Brand-new Alpina Red Bird backcountry skis with edges, 200 cm (wood-grain design) and red anodized Voile 3-pin bindings with climbing bails.

New Leki adjustable poles

Atlas 8x30 inch snowshoes, a decade old, well used -- blue with black decking, and the binding has been reattached by the factory with blue straps. One of them has some water sloshing around inside owing to a rivet hole and a stream crossing.

If any of you guys happen to come across any of his gear, please let me know or contact Ottawa police. Thanks.

I'll keep an eye out, although with the huge selection of skis and snowshoes everyone wears around here, I probably wouldn't even be able to identify any of it if I saw it.

Sorry to hear about your friend's stuff though.  That sucks, sounds like a huge hit on the pocketbook.

That's the reason I never leave anything in plain sight in my car. People will break into a vehicle for even spare change lying around.

Sorry to hear for your friend. :(

Not often in Ottawa but I'll keep an eye out on the gear swap forums.

Oh man that burns me up. Somebody broke into my GTO years ago and stole some tapes. Funny thing is, they went through the tapes and took only the new stuff and left my beloved Frank Zappa, Zep and Beatles.

I suggest you monitor Kijiji & Craigslist for the Ottawa area. There was a story recently here in Toronto of a guy finding his stolen bike up for sale there & the police nabbed the guy.
