I've been very happy with my Salomon XA Comp 3 trail runners -- but they are getting worn and will need to be replaced.  For those who are familiar with these trail runners, can you tell me what's the closest equivalent nowadays?  Thanks.

Are you looking for a mesh or waterproof design? Want to stick with Salomon?

Hi SB:

WP not necessary at all.  Looking for Salomon or something similar.  Comfy.  Good for long walks.  Good support.  Good traction.  But no need for full-on boots either.

I'd send an E-mail to Salomon and ask what they have that would be similar.  Also, you might try this:  shoe fitter (I just picked random shoes) click on "show me how it fits" and go from there.  I'm not sure if it will have your old shoes, but it might give you a general idea of fit.

If you like those, why not current the XA Comp 7s?
I have the XA Pro 3D Ultra M+(how's that for a fancy name?!?), but they're pretty narrow across the toebox in spite of being "wides". I'm happy with them for the most part, but a long day with a lot of steep downhills(where they mash my pinkie toes) is more than I can do in them, so I can't use them for backpacking. That's just an individual fit issue, though, and they've been fine for mountain biking and short dayhikes.
