You're stranded on a deserted island. Rescue is approximately 4 weeks out. You have to make it 4 weeks on your own.

What 1 thing will you miss the most from home?

What is the 1 thing (must exist) you will be sure to bring with you?

What would be your "I must do the following in this order" to survive?

Simply curious...

Need more info first.

How big is the island?
What is the weather?
What sort of vegetation?
What have I been stranded with (ie backpack, boat parts etc)
Do I have injuries?
Anyone stranded with me?

What 1 thing will you miss the most from home?      cookie

What is the 1 thing (must exist) you will be sure to bring with you?        hammock

What would be your "I must do the following in this order" to survive?   Water is always the most important thing, so a fresh water source would be imperative.   4 weeks would mean a food source of some sort, either on the island or in the water.

How big is the island? - How's 10 square miles sound.
What is the weather? - comfortable. lack of extremes
What sort of vegetation? - vegetated within the center, sandy/rocky along the shore line.
What have I been stranded with (ie backpack, boat parts etc)? - nothing. You get your one item.
Do I have injuries? nothing other than the bumps and bruises you've given yourself.
Anyone stranded with me? all alone

What would be your "I must do the following in this order" to survive? Find a reliable water source and make some good beef-jerky out of the other person stranded on the island to insure a reliable food source.

The one thing I would miss from home:  My wife and kid, after the first couple days.

The thing I would bring from home: One of those soaking wet, sand covered SI models.  Kidding, a knife.

Order of survival: Water, shelter, food.

I'm pretty much with Tdale on this one.

You need fresh water in order to survive so I would bring that if there is none on the island, otherwise, Heather Locklear is the clear and obvious choice.

Miss back home...... nothing for four weeks.  Ok, maybe toilet paper.

water, food and shelter are your primary concerns.

4 weeks?  Probably nothing!  This sounds like a vacation.  Near the end I might start getting bored but I should have a pretty good all-over tan.

What is the 1 thing (must exist) you will be sure to bring with you?

My favorite brewpub.  Oh, if that doesn't work I'll take a hatchet or similar.

What would be your "I must do the following in this order" to survive?

Build shelter, find fluids, make fire, find food.

Knife.

What would be your "I must do the following in this order" to survive?

Shelter, water, fire (maybe), food (type of which determines the need for a fire).

Interesting that you pose this only a few days after the Facebook page for the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve started a "Desert Island Survival" thread.

Having purposely "stranded" myself on a remote island for three weeks at a time, by my own choice, I'm pretty sure I could survive another week and do okay.

What would you miss most?
My wife.  And my kids.  I always miss them after the first day or few.

What will you bring?
Food and shelter.  That's two things, so I guess it'd be food;  I'd improvise shelter.  I'm assuming water could be found, otherwise things just got a lot more difficult.

What "must you do" to survive?
Get food, water and shelter, if I didn't have them already.

That's about it.

Coffee would be missed, as well as my wife

I would want a solid knife with.

Since temps are moderate it would all being about finding water. If the island has a solid fresh water source it's all good. If I'm tapping plants and trying to catch rain in big leaves for water, that sucks.

Food (I'm thinking this is tropical to semi tropical) while not exactly tasty or tempting should be fairly abundant. If I can get a fire going to make a nasty soup of misc. critters it might be more palatable. Not sure what I could find for a pot, would a coconut shell crack under heat? I would guess so. Maybe lined with a bannana or similar leaf...

Shelter will consist of natural materials.
