It's ironic.  I was looking for a place to pull off the road (into a gas station parking lot or similar) before getting on the freeway, so I could send a message to my wife telling her I was on my way home.  I won't do that on the road.  Wanted to be safe.

Having my eyes off the road for a second, while looking for a driveway, made me miss the light and ram into somebody's SUV.  Happened so damned quick.  My fault, definitely, I don't dispute it.  Everyone understood, even the police officer (he said he appreciated my honesty, and that "it happens"), although he was required to write me a ticket anyway, which I understood.

My air-bag deployed and the car is likely a total loss.  The other driver's car didn't fare nearly as badly, likely a new fender will have her back in shape, which is good.  I have comprehensive coverage... it'll cost me, but won't be too bad.

Luckily, with no accidents or tickets in the past 9 years on my policy, I qualify for "accident forgiveness," which hopefully will help me out here.  Assuming the car is totaled, I'll probably be shopping for a new one soon.  Such is life.  I walked away with just a few bruises and scrapes on my forearm from the air bag.  In the end it's just a car, coulda been a helluva lot worse.
