It is full on now.  Blowing like a mutha!  Just got power back for the moment.  The highest tide I have ever seen,  All out of food.  Pets are looking tasty at the moment.  Might have to break out the Backpacker  Chili mac. Wish me luck. :D

A trip report?  What the What?  I am hoping the 60' spruce trees don't come down on my roof.  That would be a trip.  ??? It is kinda exciting!

Dogs and chilli Mac.....yum!

Be safe!  It's exciting when the tree falls on the neighbors house.  On yours, not so much.

You did stock up on beer beforehand, right?

The wind is blowing pretty good here, but we're a couple hours from max.  We lost power for a while at 5:34, but it's back on for now.

I can't believe that we still have power......I am thankful for that....now, if they would only call off work for tomorrow.....winds are gusting to 50-60 mph.....and it won't get better for at least 6-9 hours......

Wind is incredible in Larchmont, NY.  Just heard a huge explosion, probably a transformer, but lights still on on our block anyway.  Getting texts from friends that their power is out (all over Westchester County).  Hard to imagine what it's going to be like when the systems collide.  Trees here can't take much more.  I just removed shutters from the house (old house, real shutters that really close), and moved more stuff inside.  It's getting pretty ugly out there.  Dog (in icon) is a total wreck.

Big mess here.  Probably 3x Snowtober.  Our community is completely cut off and most people can't get more than half a block.  They'll have to rewire from scratch.  Most poles are broken and lines busted every couple hunred feet for miles.
Nobody hurt, though.

Yep, passed a convoy on Sunday headed north.

Starting to see some pictures from the air....mass destruction in places.

Helps headed your way....hang in there awhile longer.

Lots of trees down around them, but her house escaped this time.

Ah yes, a chainsaw weekend. Well put. As I tarry here in my office, a refreshing beverage at hand, thinking of you east coastanites and the wake of the tempest, I remember back  in 2005, back when the world for some reason seemed a wee bit simpler, we had some rather severe weather rumble through town here in Minnesota. I lost most of my trees that day. So did every one else, and we were without power for the better part of a week. And I mean the better part, as I enjoyed it immensely. Maybe it's the camper in me, I don't know, but for a while I was living the dream, my house not much better than a cabin on the wild frontier. By day it was chain saws snorting, and wood chips flying. And by night, just crickets and candle lanterns,  the sounds of the big city erased with but one swift kick from mother nature. I miss my trees, but I shall long remember that glorious week, the week my world went back in time.

Too many trees for the chainsaws here.  The township came through with bulldozers this afternoon to make way for emergency vehicles.  The local VFD folks said there were a lot of fires due to wires getting pulled off houses.  They couldn't get to most of them, so they had to let people fend for themselves.

Where do you reside?  I feel for ya.  I lived 30 yrs in S Florida.  Gawd it sucked.  Storm after storm.  Be carefull.  Most of the injuries happen before and after the storm.  I'm sure you know that.  Almost lost a foot in Andrew.

that's sad, but tends to happen.  Since I've lived in TX, I have been skirted by a couple storms and got a more or less direct hit by one (much diminished after coming over 100mi inland).  Trees tend to drop like matchsticks here, because they're mostly pines with wimpy root systems.  I have lost a couple loblolly pines and have replaced them with longleafs, which develop a very deep taproot that I suspect makes them much more resilient to hurricanes (and droughts).

In the one storm that hit directly, one of the trees in the empty lot next to mine split and dropped a big branch on some nearby high tension wires.  I called 911 about it because I saw the lines sparking and trying hard to set that branch on fire.  It took the fire department awhile to arrive, but the power company cut power until the fire dept could get that branch cleared.  Fortunate for two things: a proactive power company, and that it was too wet for that branch to sustain a fire for long.  Once power was turned off, it smoldered itself out.

There were crews out clearing the roads this morning.  We still have lots of work to do though, especially out on the back roads.
