and prepping for Star Wars 7 in 2015

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012....rs-film

The force is strong with Mickey Mouse.
The Walt Disney Company announced on Tuesday that it is purchasing Lucasfilm in a stock and cash purchase valued at $4.05 billion. The deal includes plans for Star Wars: Episode VII, which is in early development, aiming for release in 2015. Walt Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced in a shareholder conference call that the studio also plans to release Episode VIII and Episode IX. “Our longterm plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years,” he added, noting that the deal came with “an extensive and detailed treatment for the next three movies.”
“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” said Star Wars creator and Lucasfilm CEO George Lucas in a statement. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.”

I love the expanded universe novels, well at least some of them, and there are some potentially great movies in the books that are already out there.  Plus, I admit to a certain appreciation for brainless entertainment.

Here is another article's input
"Disney is paying $4.05 billion to buy Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company behind "Star Wars," from its chairman and founder, George Lucas. It's also making a seventh movie in the "Star Wars" series called "Episode 7," set for release in 2015, with plans to follow it with Episodes 8 and 9 and then one new movie every two or three years.
The Walt Disney Co. announced the blockbuster agreement to make the purchase in cash and stock Tuesday. The deal includes Lucasfilm's prized high-tech production companies, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, as well as rights to the "Indiana Jones" franchise.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement that the acquisition is a great fit and will help preserve and grow the "Star Wars" franchise.'

My hubby is a newly minted Disney employee (of about 2 months) and came home pretty excited about this!

well, Disney has a lot of work to do if it wants to recover the Star Wars franchise from the last 3 movies.  Jar Jar and Hayden Christensen damn near ruined the whole thing.

Yes, but they weren't the root of the problem.  Lucas was out of touch with the audience.

We can now.  Trek is still the best.

Star wars is basically a kid flick.  Simplistic characters, weak plot, and the special effects don't make up for the poor acting.  Now if you really want sci-fi drama.....

Sigh.

With Lucas still on board as a "creative consultant"??

They'll be crankin' out these turds til the end of time.    :(

Augh, I just threw up in my mouth a little.

(although admittedly, Goofy with a light saber would be a more credible and dynamic Anakin than Hayden Christensen)

Man, I think it's cool. I used to be such a huge Star Wars fan. That all ended with The Phantom Menace. If what Disney is doing with Marvel is any indication, then the future of Star Wars is looking pretty good to me.

It's not likely that they could be worse than Phantom Menace, but I guess it's possible.

I, for one, am excited.  Star Wars without Lucas in charge is exactly what it needs.  Hopefully now we will get better dialouge and more engaging plots.

Not sure if I agree with you. The Clone Wars franchise has been a growing phenonomen and I wouldn't be surprised if Disney exploits that with a movie or two.

I'm hoping that the Karen Traviss books have a chance of making it into a movie one day. I'd love to see them break away from the original group and follow her Mandalorian stories that start with "Order 66"
