So...Christmas is approaching and I'm a little stumped for a gift for my mother. She has a big trip to Australia/New Zealand coming up in February, so I might like to get her something for the trip (or the endless flight)
She's already told me she's not interested in a Kindle or any type of e-reader, although she does enjoy audio-books.
What sorts of travel gadgets or accessories have you found that made a long flight or a long trip more enjoyable?

The only thing that makes a long flight enjoyable for me is a seat in first or business class -- makes all the difference in the world when I can lay down perfectly flat and sleep the hours away... but that will set you back a few bucks...
As an alternative, how about a good book -- something pertinent to her trip -- that might add some enjoyment and maybe even help speed up the hours some?

I have no idea about your Mother's interests, but any book pertaining to her visit, like a bird identification book for the region, or a guide book to the sets for The Lord of the Rings area. I hear they have become tourist meccas.
For me, the long hours are best spent sleeping, so maybe a travel pillow, or a book detailing the stretches you can do while in the seat so that you feel better when you land.
I know those headsets are not too good, so if she is one who would watch the movie, a better set of headphones would be nice.

I'd suggest you get her copy of Bill Bryson's "In a Sunburt Land" - an informative and humourous travel log about Austrialia. Or if she likes fiction, "The Thorn Birds" is a the great Austailian novel and if she likes straight history, "The Fatal Shore" is a fine history of the convict founding of Austraila. My first suggestion would be Bryson's book.

"In a Sunburned Country" That's a pretty good read and a good book for a long plane flight.

Panasonic RP-HC55-S Noise-Cancelling Earbuds. They have the aircraft adaptor included. Love mine. Set them between stations, have the low level white noise going and go to sleep.
