Anybody here collect rare coins and currency of any type?
I am into it a little, but Tom is really into such. Watches, guns and fountain pens too. Also antique clocks.
But not stamps.
What do you collect?

My Dad's collection was pretty extensive. He gave it to me before he died. I haven't had any appraised yet. But, some look pretty rare.

Haphazardly. Running a cash register at work I find all sorts of coins, and keep them in an old jewelry box. Oddly I usually find them at the end of the night. I wonder why no one ever notices them as they're taking them, evidently I do it too. One of these days we'll sort them all out and see what they're worth.

I stopped once on side of a 2-lane Texas public road that was within a mile or so of an old fort site. There was also an "iron" bridge within a few feet that crossed a branch of the Brazos (Yes, I'm being vague about the exact spot).
My guess was the bridge was constructed at a spot which Indians and early settlers and frontier-time soldiers would have crossed.
I looked down, and noticed a few pieces of broken china and some rusty square nails, right on the roadside.
I reached down to pick up the broken china, and my eye caught sight of something round.
A 1856 quarter.
Worth very little to other collectors, but I would not sell it for $1,000.
-------------- My favorite compliment: "GrandPa, I've seen other old men, and their faces are a whole lot cruddier than yours is".

Yeah, it's very "rare" that I ever have money.
