I wanted to post the video of my Thanksgiving vacation to Arches/ GCNP a few days ago and found that the "Use old embed code" checkbox was missing.
Some tedious cut/paste from older posts and I was finally able to get an embedded player here, but has anyone else had this problem ?
UlightBandit said he was experiencing the exact symptoms I had when trying to bring up the "Embed" options, the screen looked strange, and the "Use Old Embed Code" check box was missing.
As an all too normal complaint, for this site, most of my other forum sites are migrating to their own embedded flashplayer that doesn't require anything more than the URL of the video you are trying to link.
The forum software is becoming even more ancient than a dinosaur, think amoeba.

Same as above... I have encountered no problem with embedding Youtube videos here.

After tearing my hair out for hours, several days ago, when it was missing, and giving up on Youtube, I just checked back in , and was back.

I couldn't embed yesterday. Figured I was on a beta release of You Tube that didn't have the old code.

Your not going crazy I found it missing a few days ago also. Seems to be still missing But only with Google Chrome browser. Firefox is OK. Now that is odd I switch to Chrome recently but might be going back to Firefiox I use Chrome without any Youtube issues. I wasn't, however, embedding stuff daily, so it could have been something from Youtube's side. But I don't believe it has to do with Chrome.

Ok just seemed odd that the same video in Chrome and Firefox had different embedding options

I use Chrome and I have found that some videos have the old embed code but some do not.

And it strikes again tonight. Screen capture using my default Firefox browser. IE is the same.

I found some instruction for a work around that does not require much effort
find the link to your video. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVxULHBYkWk
Then add a . after .com example http://www.youtube.com./watch?v=LVxULHBYkWk
Then click enter. Your will now see a border at the top of your video and an option to share from that border
Click share, then embed and you'll see the old embed code as an option.
Actually the first video you embedded as that share option on the border in the top right. Click it and then embed.

eggs,
Hot damn, that seems to work! Thanks. I too had become annoyed at the frequent disappearance of the "Old Embed Code" option on YouTube, given that many forums don't allow the < iframe > HTML tag for security reasons.

Or perhaps Backpacker.com can finally incorporate the already-not-so-new embed methodology -- and not force us to hunt for the old way each and every time?
Yeah, I know, wishful thinking. Sigh...
