I just missed his call after coming home late. The tone of his message scared me thinking it was something to do with my Grand-daughter.
Instead, he told me my ex, his mother, was rushed to the hospital on News Year Day due to "extensive bleeding", that was just determined to be Stage 4 metastasized Cervical Cancer.
I know there's lot's of ex bashing here and everywhere, but we parted on the best of terms, and co parented my daughter and son until they were old enough to go out on their own. We started out as "Best Friends" in College, later became husband and wife, and parted ways as "Best Friends" with no remorse.
She's had 3 rounds of chemo and 2 rounds of radiation to try and stop the hemorrhaging.
They don't consider surgery an option due to the amount of spreading.

I recall you speaking well of her many times. Cervical cancer is such a ruthless and insidious disease. I've lost a few close relatives to it, one with young children. I hope the treatment will do whatever it can without knocking the wind out of her sails. You have my deepest condolences.

Your blessed to have that type of relationship with your ex, it makes a HUGE difference when children are involved. Hope all works out.

So sorry SWT My parents are divorced and on good terms. My mom is currently in the hospital, just had surgery to remove her female parts and she heard she is cancer free this morning. A relief for us, but I know there are many others (yourself and your family included) that are still struggling with it.

I'm sorry to hear about this on two counts:
1) for her, your son, and you
2) that women in the developed world should not be dying from this easily detectable, slow-growing, and (in early stages) localized cancer.

That is rough. Your a very honorable person to still feel compassion towards your ex, I know so many people who are divorced and talk ill will towards their ex, but when it comes down to a situation like this, I don't think they mean it.
I wish the best for your ex. It's a horrible thing for sure.

I apologize for straying from support to statistics, but who knows, someone may read this and say, "I've been putting off the visit to Planned Parenthood or other GYN provider - I think I'll go ahead and make an appointment."
For whatever reasons, I can't copy info from CDC.
Summary: in 2008 in the US, ~12,000 new cases cervical cancer and ~4,000 deaths
