Wow, we're so excited!  DH and I grew up with the Harbaugh boys.  John's our age and we all went to junior high together.  I had a huge crush on John in 8th grade...  Jim's a few years younger and I didn't knew him well but my DH played football with both of them in high school.

Of course, I'll be rooting for the Ravens.  :)

The playoffs haven't turned out quite how I hoped, but the Niners and Ravens earned their spots convincingly.

I'm not much of a football fan, cheer for the Packers when I have to choose.  That said, I loathe the Ravens.  It's going to be a long two weeks listening to them tell me how wonderful Ray Lewis is.

They have to.  I can't imagine what it's like to turn on your tv and see someone that was involved in your loved one's murder being lauded as a hero.

(Ok, I'm done before this winds up in TPA. Sorry Tiger.)

It is indeed true.  That said, he is the only one that made a deal to avoid prosecution.  Either he told the truth on the stand and was involved in a murder or his friends told the truth, it was a defense fight, and Ray committed perjury.

I guess it shouldn't surprise me that it will all just end up being about Ray Lewis (including this thread.  :( )  I'm not going to speculate since I know nothing more than what was in the news which, frankly, didn't make anyone sound good.

The only thing I do know is that John's one of those genuinely good guys.

I suppose some attention to Ray Lewis is inevitable as you said. Certainly in the Atlanta area he remains vilified, I had thought the rest of the country had forgotten about what happened and am glad it has not gone away.

The coach-brothers match-up is an intriguing footnote to the whole thing. I'm hoping mainly for a good game, but also for a Ravens loss (sorry) only because I don't want to see RL go out on that high note.

I imagine Mom and Pop Harbaugh are filled with pride for their sons but also a little dread knowing one of them will be on the losing end of the big game.

Won't matter as the 49'ers will win.  The only decision is which beer is best to enjoy the NFC's eventual and inevitable triumph.

They're a fun team to watch.  I felt bad for Alex Smith losing his job, but it sure looks like Harbaugh was right about Kaepernick.

My oldest boy was rooting for the Patriots and told me later that he had talked a lot of smack with his buddies at school about the Ravens. But I have to say, he's incredibly brave or stupid because he plans on wearing his Brady jersey to school.

They better hold on to Alex Smith because running Quarterbacks like Kaepernick don't last long in the NFL.
Mike Vick is always getting hurt, and now RGIII is hurt.

I used to live in Boston and I'm still a huge Patriots fan.  It was a tough call this weekend.  My DH's best friend was in one of those 'survivor' football pools -- 600 people at $200 a piece (yeah, do the math...)  He was one of 7 people still left as of this weekend and he chose the Patriots...  I though it was bad karma to bet against one of our childhood friends.  I was right.

LOTS of Ann Arbor (U of M) representation this weekend with Tom Brady, Jim Harbaugh and John Harbaugh.

Mike Vick is always getting hurt, and now RGIII is hurt.

At least Kaepernick has some size and from the little I've seen appears smart enough to go down when he should.

Sadly, I knew it was only a matter of time before RGIII got badly injured.   He was awe-inspiring, but someone that small is at a terrible disadvantage even without being as exposed as he is on most plays.  He might come back, but he'll have to adjust his style or be finished after another year like this one.

Vick is sort of in between, but he's almost as reckless as RGIII when it comes to taking big hits in situation where the reward doesn't justify the risk.

I feel compelled to comment Tebow here, too.  He's plenty big enough, yet suffered broken ribs on a fairly routine play, so even size isn't always enough.  His problem is that defenses can cheat on his arm.  His accuracy under duress is bad enough that they'll give him the pass, and his windup is so big that they have time to get at him unless he's on the run.

I was rooting for the Patriots only because of Brady.  I really dislike Belichick.  There are many reasons, but the snub he put on Coughlin after the Giants won their first Super Bowl meeting really epitomizes him for me.

I was a fan of Brady, but got tired of his smug attitude when he started believing his own press. Frankly he isn't as great as people like to say because he has a great offensive line that protects him. Hit him a few times or intercept him and he starts unraveling.

Pressure worked well for the Giants in the past.  They just couldn't bring it this year like they used to.

Lots of buzz in Ann Arbor this week.  They interviewed my DH for a local article and it came out with pictures from our 9th grade year book... sort of like going to a high school reunion.  :D
