Actually, the newer cans aren't bad, and many craft brewers such as Oskar Blues, Ska, Santa Fe Brewers, etc. are switching back to cans.
I personally like bottles myself, but it's hard to beat cans for convenience.

A lot of bottled and canned beer is pasteurized to increase the shelf life.
Most draft beer is not.
You can taste the difference.

Crushing a bottle against your forehead is more painful. Cans are also much lighter to pack out.

Canned beer is great for backpacking. A total light and oxygen barrier also makes it the best container for the beer. I love that so many of the micros are canning.
