I'll be in Memphis this weekend for the International Blues Challange. My cousin's band won the regionals for the Columbus, Ohio area. All of us cousin's will be in Memphis to root for him. 200 bands from around the world to compete.

Here's a song about Memphis by Marc Cohn...just because.

And here is my cousin, Mark May (in the black shirt) and his band playing in Texas doing a 10 minute version of Little Wing

Yes! First cousin.

His sisters, my brother and I are all converging on Memphis this evening. But, I'm sitting on the tarmac in Atlanta waiting for a hailstorm to clear out.

It's so neat that you've heard of him.

Husband is from Memphis. We are BBQ snobs because of it. You must have BBQ Spaghetti at some point. Any of the good BBQ places will serve it.

Enjoy!

Be careful there.  Many areas you do not want to venture into....but fortunately they have erected signs to warn you of these places.  The signs say  "Memphis City Limits"

I saw the bbq spaghetti at some place on Beale. I may try it. We'll see.

I did have some bbq at Pig on Beale last night while some solo blues player did his thing for the judges. I had the bbq sampler which inluded ribs, pulled pork and chicken. On the side was corn-on-the-cob and beans. Pretty dang good.

Thanks, MsDoolittle!

Mark's band made the semi-finals. If they win tonight (against 4 bands) they'll be in the finals tomorrow night. There is some pretty good competition in the band catagory. The other catagory is the solo/duo.

Lot's of good food and music all within a two block section of Beale. Too much fun.

Good idea! Where would you be coming from?

The Mark May Band plays pretty regularly at The Roadhouse in north Columbus. You'd have to do some research to find out when, though.

No joke! Just kidding.

So far, Memphis has shown it's fantastic hospitality. This afternoon we're going to do the Gibson Guitar factory tour.

We're just an hour or so west of Columbus. (depending a traffic) Already checked out the website and saw some possibilities. There's also a great climbing wall that may be calling our name as well on Sunday.

Go to Schwab's on Beale.  They may be done with the "renovation", but be sure to wander around, especially upstairs.  It's a time capsule.  I remember when he used to sit in a corner and pass out pencils.

When I was there last year it really hadn't changed since their deaths, although the new owners are making changes.

Schwab's

Just left Schwabs. If they remodeled, they left it "rustic". Bought a T-shirt.

Go to the Stax Museum if you have time.  It's great, especially the car Isaac Hayes got for signing a new contract.

How'd the band do?

Didn't make the Stax museum we did go to Stax bar on Beale last night. Not sure if the bar and museum are the same place.

Mark made it to the semi-finals at BB King's but a "local" favorite won out. Later the local guy that no way his band played better than Mark May's band. Guess that's the way it goes.

I'm at Memphis airport waiting for the flight to Minneapolis then to Tucson.

Semis is still good.

Stax Museum is different than the bar - separate area of town.  Isaac Hayes, Rufus Thomas, Otis Redding, Little Milton, Booker T and the MGs, Staple Singers...
