Had a converstion with a guy yesterday who turned out to be a real BSer about hiking.  He claimed to be an expert at everything but a few minutes talking to him showed he didn't even know the basic terminology/vocabulary of the sport.  Got me to wondering.  What are say, 100 terms (if we can come up with that many), any expericenced hiking should be aware of if he/she is at all an accomplished or passionate backpacker?  I'll list a few.  Feel free to add to the list? Let's leave brand names out of this for the most part.  There are obvious exceptions to this of course (see below) where the brand is indicative of an entire hiking concept or trend.

CDT, gore-text, Colin Fletcher, closed cell, vestibule, thru- hiker, gorp, AT, rain fly, talus

Have at it.  Might be fun.

What? No wildlife included yet? Pretty tough to be "accomplished" and not be "aware of" plenty of these:
black bear, grizzly bear, mountain lion, gray wolf, coyote, moose, elk, bison, marmot, wolverine, bald eagle, fox, bobcat, lynx, porcupine, skunk, racoon, pika, beaver, pronghorn . . . etc.
