I don't know about using the essential oil of catnip in mountain lion country, though.

To be fair, it's about "at home" and "on the porch" methods for repelling mosquitoes.  Like #2, "Turn On a Fan" is of only limited utility in the backcountry.  Probably just fine for home use though.

Although I might take a bat house with me next trip, just to see.

I'll settle for one good way to repel celebrities, pseudo-celebrities, "reality" TV stars, dancers with the stars, any and all idols, et al.

Not watching TV gives me a great start, but a few still manage to creep in.

I'd be willing to try it. What's the big cat going to do? Make love to me?

What's natural about fans, light bulbs, industrially packaged catnip oil, repellants, etc.?

Beware of Lemon Eucalyptus. I was on a shake down hike here in Florida about 2 years ago trying out a lot of new gear before a trip out west. It was mid-August with 90+ heat. The sun was starting to drop as I was passing a swamp and the skeeters were on attack. I pulled out this natural herbal stuff and started lathering my self down with it. From the heat, my pores had been wide open in full sweat mode. And this stuff must have soaked right in. It felt like I had just rubbed myself down with pepper spray. It burned like hell.

I think the skeeters stopped bothering me because they were too busy laughing their little wings off.

DEET doesn't seem to bother me too much anymore.
