Cav gets his just desserts at the end of Stage 1. Surprisingly, he admits it. I just might have some new-found respect for him.

Stage 2 really held my interest because that's the same terrain we have around here. A course profile that you don't see often in Le Tour. The lively finish was just the frosting on the cake.

Like the race. Too bad about Cavendish, I like the road racers better but the sprinters work for their pay for sure. Tough bunch.

I get the app so I can follow in real time and also watch the races seamlessly.

I don't know.  Ever since the Armstrong scandals and the preceding ones, I've been extremely disillusioned with professional bicycle racing. Do you think they've cleaned up their act?

Moreso than any of the major sports. The "problem" with cycling is that their testing is so vigorous that it is constantly catching dopers. If the major sports tested like cycling... well, there wouldn't be major sports. Pro cycling definitely needs a better PR department to get that point across.

Of particular fascination to me is Contador. He was busted and served a suspension. He hasn't been the same since. Still one of the best climbers, but definitely less superhuman. I still think Team Sky (Wiggins, Froome, Porte) is doping... but that's just my opinion based on how much better they're performing than all the other competitors. They're on a whole other level.

Great rides yesterday by Martin and Gallopin! And Cancellara in second made my daughter very happy.* That was quite the drama-filled stage. And it's nice for a Frenchman to be wearing yellow on Bastille Day.

*For some reason, she's liked Fabian since she was 2 years old. She doesn't even know who Lebron or Derek Jeter are.

Wiggins was quoted as saying he's staying with Sky. Focusing more on Classics and the One Hour record though he'll do grand tours, but, "not to win"...

I saw some special a couple weeks ago... not even sure what channel. But apparently Wiggins and Froome HATE each other. Not just competitively, but on a deep-down personal level.

So, what happened with Contador?
Was his crash really that bad, or did he just quit because he was so far off the yellow?

The Tinkoff-Saxo directeur sportif is quoted on my NBC Tour app as saying "Alberto badly crashed. His right knee is seriously injured. The crash has been violent. I have his shoe with me, it's totally destroyed..." Too much pain to continue, x-rays later today.

He was 4 minutes down on the Peleton but this year in particular with all the crazy stuff that wouldn't necessarily be a clincher.

Velo News has a piece.
http://velonews.competitor.com/2014...._336241

So apparently: "“Alberto has a broken tibia. It’s not a bad fracture but he needs surgery,” team boss Bjarne Riis told journalists. “He’s in a lot of pain and is getting stitches.."
Read more at http://velonews.competitor.com/2014....vX0W.99

And I'd note he remounted and tried to catch up after the crash... these are tough guys. Peddling up a bike race climb with a broken leg. Ouch.

Team manager Bjarne Riis said that Contador would probably need surgery on his fractured tibia.

"Alberto crashed on a fast and straight part of the descent," he added. "He was reaching for his pocket and the bike was swept away under him probably because of a bump or hole in the road."

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/cycling/28298537

Nibali witnessed the crash while riding near Contador at more than 35 miles per hour.

“The asphalt was not in good condition,” he said. “He was behind me, but then passed me and three seconds later he fell off in front of me. It was spectacular.”
